The world’s first ever Yorkshire vending machine has been unveiled by a leading county tourist attraction.
To celebrate Yorkshire Day on August 1, Xscape Yorkshire has created the fun-filled machine that only vends true Yorkshire produce from Yorkshire puddings and tea to coal, flat caps and Y badges.
World-famous Yorkshire brands have joined forces on the machine to celebrate the greatest day in the year including Yorkshire Tea, Yorkshire Water, Seabrook Crisps, Henderson’s Relish, Aunt Bessie’s and Welcome to Yorkshire among others.
Professional cyclist and Yorkshire Grand Depart Tour de France ambassador, Dean Downing, was on hand to help launch the machine ready for the public to enjoy on Yorkshire Day, August 1, for free from 10am to 12pm at the centre.
Dean Downing said: “I’ve cycled all over the world and when I’m asked where I’m from, I can’t help but show my pride when I say Yorkshire. There’s something special about our county – for somewhere so big, it feels tight-knit. The vending machine is brilliant and I’d love to see one of these in every airport around the world to stop people getting homesick!”
Jade Elliott, marketing manager of Xscape Yorkshire, said: “I’m a proud Yorkshirewoman, so August 1 is always a special day in the calendar. We like doing things a bit differently here and we are one of the biggest attractions in the UK’s biggest county, so it felt right to team-up with the cream of Yorkshire and celebrate some of the amazing things God’s Own Country has to offer.”
Jess Hardcastle of Aunt Bessie’s, said: “We are proud to be based in Yorkshire and make one of the county’s most iconic foods, the famous Yorkshire pudding. We’re thrilled to feature in the first ever Yorkshire vending machine to celebrate this great day.”
Kevin Butterworth, International Sales and Marketing Director at Seabrook Crisps, said: “We are proud of our roots, having been established in Yorkshire in 1945, and we continue to manufacture in Bradford to this day. We are delighted to support the Yorkshire vending machine along with fellow local businesses and proud to bring a flavour of Yorkshire to both UK and export markets.”
Laura Burton, Senior Brand Manager at Yorkshire Tea, said: “At Yorkshire Tea, we pride ourselves on being a place where everything’s done proper. When we were approached by the team at Xscape to be involved with their Yorkshire vending machine, it was a no-brainer – what a great way to celebrate Yorkshire Day!”
Chelsea Johnson, of Yorkshire Water, said: “All good Yorkshire folk love ‘owt for nowt, so we were delighted to provide bottles of our brilliant Yorkshire Water for the Yorkshire vending machine. It’s pretty cheap when it comes out of the tap, but even better when it’s free!”
Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “We’re delighted to be part of this celebration of our county’s special day. Our exclusive Y badges are hot property and we know anyone lucky enough to get one will wear it with immense pride, helping us celebrate Yorkshire 365 days of the year.”
