Newcastle-based compliance and energy assessment provider, Green Zone Surveys, has successfully trained a further two of their technical team to help improve greater adoption of energy efficiency principles and procedures for businesses right across the region and further afield.

Project Surveyors, Cameron McLean and George Taylor have successfully gained qualifications in Display Energy Certificates and commercial Energy Performance Certificates - which will allow them to progress towards eventually being chartered energy managers.

These qualifications will equip the two team members to enhance their knowledge and application of energy assessment principles, which means that they will offer businesses leading advice and practical guidance on how to measure and improve their energy efficiency.

The two surveyors have successfully completed their ABBE Level 4 Diploma in Non Domestic Energy Assessment (EPCs) and ABBE Level 3 Diploma in Operational Ratings (DECs) courses respectively, in partnership with Elmhurst Energy.

Green Zone’s technical manager, Ben Palmer, said: “We are very pleased that George and Cameron have expanded their knowledge and professional qualifications.

“This will allow them to complement our already extensively qualified team with a larger variety of assessors available to us.”

The Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) course is designed to educate graduates around the regulations and legislation regarding the Energy Performance for Buildings and other appropriate guidelines, as well as guiding through the government approved software for producing EPCs.

Senior project surveyor, Cameron McLean, said: “The course has given me the opportunity to complete my EPC portfolio and achieve qualification.

“I have also been able to deepen my understanding of how the construction and services of a building can affect its energy performance, as well as how those features can affect its calculated energy rating.

“Completing this course is part of the next steps for me to become a fully certified energy assessor and continue to develop my skills and experience.”

Meanwhile, the Display Energy Certificate (DEC) training provides the fundamentals of producing DECs, learning how to use various site systems, including OrCalc, and allowing participants to produce a portfolio with live example certificates.

Project surveyor, George Taylor, said: “The course was helpful in showing me what is required to complete my portfolio, and this has fast forwarded the portfolio process for me and given me more time to work on my own projects.

“Although I am already experienced in producing DECs it was good to get a more in depth understanding of this process and to get any questions I had answered by a specialist/auditor.”
