RJC Plant Services began it’s rollout of 10 acts of kindness recognising three local community heroes
RJC Plant Services Ltd, a North Yorkshire based provider of grab hire and aggregate supplies, is celebrating their 10th anniversary by saying thanks to three local community heroes with random acts of kindness.
Six ladies who run the monthly lunch club for the elderly in Church Fenton were surprised when the RJC team came along to this month’s gathering to say thank you for all they do. Margaret Miles, Sue Babington, June Monkman, Jean Lawson, Lesley Wright and Susan Smart who are known as ‘The Chapel Lunch Ladies’ buy and cook all the food for the residents, and were gifted with an afternoon tea by the grab hire company for themselves to enjoy.
Community volunteer Carole Driver was surprised with a flowers and chocolates as a thank you for all her work with the local youth groups, and Samantha Charleston who is an active member of the local community, including chairing the Parish Council, being a church warden, helping organise events, and support for residents, was also surprised with a gift of flowers and chocolates by the company.
Chris Jackson, co-director of RJC said: “This year is a big one for the business celebrating our 10th anniversary. We wanted to do something to give back as a thank you and it’s become an annual tradition now around Random Act of Kindness Day to acknowledge people and organisations who are doing great things. The lunch club ladies, Carole and Samantha are what all communities need. They do what they do because they want to help others, so we just wanted to say thanks to them and show our appreciation.”
Samantha Charlston, one of the recipients said: “It was a bit of a shock but a lovely surprise to find I’d been nominated for a random act of kindness, but it really brightened my day. I’ll never forget that feeling when I was presented with my beautiful gifts, you cannot overestimate how an act of kindness can make someone feel. Let’s all be more RJC and consider doing something kind and thoughtful for someone.”
These first three acts of kindness will form part of 10 activities the business will undertake over the year that will see them giving back to the local community, along with donating and fundraising for good causes.
A charity calendar is planned to raise funds for men’s mental health charities, along with a Christmas Jolly Drive Thru to collect gifts for children in need.
John Harrison, co-director added: “Giving back is one of our core values as a business. It’s part of what has helped us develop and grow over the years to the business we are today, and we’re looking forward to making a difference this year to some great people and causes with our remaining 7 activities - watch this space!”
These latest acts by RJC form part of their ongoing commitment to supporting community organisations and good causes. The firm were finalists in the 2023 Yorkshire Choice Awards for Most Charitable Business and were shortlisted in BBC Radio York’s Make a Difference Awards and York Mix Hero awards last year.
