Deans Computer Services (DCS), a Leeds-based software solutions company, celebrates its 40th anniversary this month. Since its inception, the company has supplied over 2,500 UK-based companies with a wealth of IT solutions.

Founded by Peter Rogerson in 1982, Peter has seen the company grow from 2 employees to over 40 and still acts as chairman of the company. DCS is now run by managing director Patrick Clayton, who joined the business in 1992 as a programmer.

Over the past few years DCS has acquired several other IT companies, including Sudden Solutions Ltd in Bury and Intramation Ltd in Doncaster. In addition, 2017 saw DCS merge with Leckhampton Computers Ltd, allowing them to diversify their product offering and support larger customers.

Commenting on their longevity, Peter said: "I'm thrilled DCS is still going strong after 40 years, especially given the challenging few years we've all faced. Over half our staff have been with us for more than 15 years, which has created an internal company culture I'm extremely proud of. It's this culture that has enabled DCS to thrive and support over 500 current customers."

Over the past 40 years, DCS has continually evolved alongside long-term partners such as Pegasus Software. This has allowed them to remain at the forefront of technology and provide customers with the latest software offerings.

Peter added: "In 1982, most of our sales were to customers with no existing computer technology. They were moving from manual paper-based accounting systems to computerised ledgers at a time when the idea of the internet hadn't even been conceptualised. Now, internet access is so widespread our customers can be connected to the internet almost anywhere in the world and at any time."

As technology rapidly advanced in the 1990s, IT security became a growing concern, prompting DCS to branch out into cybersecurity training and antivrus and malware protection.

Commenting on this development, Patrick Clayton, managing director said: "We've been offering IT security services for over 20 years now as it looks like the ever-evolving issue of cybersecurity is here to stay. With this in mind, we recently invested in a family of secure and scalable cloud services to help keep our clients' data safe. Our Amber Vault Cloud Services signify the start of further investment into our security and data storage services.”

With regards to their future plans, Patrick added: "In the coming years, we're looking forward to developing our own products even further. This started with our Capital Property Manager software, which had a lockdown makeover and now makes managing a property portfolio easier than ever.”

"That being said, our main business goal here at DCS is to ensure we never lose the personal approach we have with our customers. We're looking forward to getting back out on the road to see our customers face to face and to growing our tight-knit team even further."
