Charity Chairman says ‘I do’ to pay for 100 weddings

Chairman of Wakefield based Penny Appeal Adeem Younis, has set himself a big challenge for 2017, which involves raising £100,000 to pay for 100 weddings across the world.

Adeem has taken on the grueling challenge of running the London Marathon in April and is hoping to raise enough money through sponsorship to give 100 couples, £1000 each, which will pay the full cost of their wedding, giving them home furnishings and a special wedding gift pack.

The founder of SingleMuslim.com has spent almost 20 years helping people get married and has helped facilitate over 50,000 marriages during that time, from the 2 million people registered on the site to find love. “We all know the difficulties of finding a partner, but it’s hard to imagine how challenging this is for people around the world who struggle in poverty stricken countries,” said Adeem. “These people do not have the means to get married as many of these young people were orphaned as children. So this year, I have set myself a target, with Penny Appeal, to launch the campaign ‘Say I do’ to help most in need communities around the world.”

The first of these marriages took place in early January and Adeem headed to Pakistan as guest of honour at the wedding of Mohammed Safeer and Basri Bi.

“Basri has been supported by Penny Appeal under our Orphan Programme having lost her parents at a young age,” Adeem added. “Mohammed too lost his father whilst he was very young, leaving the couple with no means of getting married. It was a real pleasure for me to be able to help them start their new life together.”

Will you say ‘I do’ and help a new family? £150 will buy a wedding gift and new clothes for the couple; £300 will pay wedding costs including Nikkah registration ceremony and food and £550 will help the new couple start their new life together with home furnishings.

Your donation could make the world of difference. More information can be found at pennyappeal.org or by logging onto: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/100marriagechallenge
